Volunteer

lotus flowerDawn Mountain could not function without the help of our brilliant volunteers.  We receive support in many different ways, and we are always looking for more help.  Several of our volunteer opportunities are outlined below; please contact us if you’d like to help out!

Greeters (teams of two) show up early for Sunday Meditations or Teaching Tuesdays to prepare the space, welcome people as they arrive, set out snacks and tea for students and teachers, and encourage folks to sign in (for every program, every time!)  We offer training and encouragement for new greeters, and attempt to pair new greeters with more experienced team members for their first few slots.

Temple keepers show up to help keep our spaces neat and clean.  Duties include cleaning bathrooms, dusting, vacuuming, managing floral displays, cleaning the kitchen and helping monitor supplies, etc. There is a long and proud tradition of temple keeping in Buddhism, and this is a particularly meritorious activity for those who choose to pursue it as a form of meditation.  If you are interested in volunteering at Dawn Mountain as part of your spiritual practice, temple keeping may be the job for you.

Children’s program assistants will be deployed starting in Fall 2014 to help lead activities for young people who are not enrolled in the formal program being offered at a particular time.  Assistants may be parents or older siblings, but others are welcome to participate as well in leading fun, gently mindful activities for kids while their parents participate in Sunday morning meditation.  This is a new opportunity for service work at Dawn Mountain.  Please contact MaryScott at maryscott@dawnmountain.org or Simone Woodage at simonewoodage@yahoo.com if you’d like to get involved.

Broadcast Volunteers  bring the Teachings – the Teachers, the Dharma and the Sangha – to those who cannot be here in person, to those in need of wisdom and solace that is always at hand, and to those who are looking but have not found us yet. It is a true Bodhisattva activity that teaches valuable technical skills as well. Please contact MaryScott at maryscott@dawnmountain.org or Gary Gauntt at gggauntt@dawnmountain.org

Building and grounds team members work periodically in support of Dawn Mountain’s physical environment.  From gardening to painting, demolition to skilled construction and everything in between, our wonderful building requires a great deal of care.  Short and long-term projects offer a variety of volunteer opportunities.  Please contact MaryScott if you’re willing to help out.

Retail team members devote their time and energy to the success of the Dawn Mountain store.  Do you have a passion for retail?  We would love to have your help.  Please get in touch with Jerri if you’d like to join our merchandising, pricing and display team.
