History

TempleDawn Mountain came into being on June 27, 1996 under the directorship of Anne Klein and Harvey Aronson.

Anne Klein, PhD, is professor and former chair of religious studies at Rice University and founding co-director of Dawn Mountain Tibetan Temple, named by the Houston Press in 2006 as the best guided meditation in Houston. A distinguished Buddhist scholar, she has studied in the United States, India, Tibet, and Nepal and has written numerous works on Buddhism, including co-authoring Unbounded Wholeness; Bon, Dzogchen, and the Logic of the Nonconceptual.

Harvey Aronson is a licensed therapist in private practice, meditation teacher and translator with many years of involvement in Buddhist studies and meditation and is a founding director of Dawn Mountain.

He has been a student of Khetsun Sangpo Rinpoche since 1973 and received teaching authorization from him in 1995 and has also studied extensively with a number of prominent Geluk and Dzogchen teachers in India, Nepal and the U.S. He has also studied extensively with Theravada teachers, especially Sri Satya Narain Goenka.

He received his PhD. in Buddhist Studies from the University of Wisconsin and an MSW from Boston University.

Harvey is the author of Love and Sympathy in Theravada Buddhism.

Harvey is married to Anne Klein and they have been traveling the path together since 1970.

1995, 2001 Anne leads pilgrimage group through Tibet.
1996-2004 Dawn Mountain coordinates support for Khetsun Sangpo Rinpoche's Monastic College which supports and teaches poor and orphaned Tibetan students in Nepal.
   
Anne Dawn Mountain manages a variety of projects that bring aid and sustenance to female and male monastics, the elderly, as well as schoolchildren.
1997 15 students study for 3 weeks with Khetsun Sangpo Rinpoche in Nepal.
